Aquis Farm yesterday went to $820,000 to secure a three-quarter sister to Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Earthquake (Exceed And Excel) in foal to Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado).
Consigned by Godolphin as Lot 959, the four-year-old Tremor (Commands), a city winner of two races, was a rare chance to secure a mare from a Darley family that rarely becomes available, according to Blue Sky Bloodstock’s Julian Blaxland.
A daughter of stakes-placed mare Cataclysm (Marauding), who has had six winners from six foals to race, Tremor is also a sister to Listed winner, the Godolphin-owned Palomares.
Blaxland admitted the $820,000 price tag for Tremor was over budget but said the mare had the attributes to produce high-class commercial yearlings.
“It is impossible to get into a family like this generally and I thought she was a beautiful physical and it is a terrific opportunity for a new stud farm like Aquis to get into a family like hers from Godolphin. Her family has all been bred up,” Blaxland said.
“Aquis obviously sold a lovely Medaglia d’Oro colt in January (at the Magic Millions) for $1,000,000, so they have had success with the sire, and they were happy to go hard to secure a blue chip mare for the farm.”
Blaxland said Tremor could return to Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro this season.
After two days, Blue Sky Bloodstock and Aquis Farm are sitting third on leading vendors table by aggregate, having purchased 18 fillies and mares for a spend of $3,723,000 at an average of $206,833.
