Ready To Run With Blue Sky?

With an impressive record of producing 12 individual Group 1 winners of 19 Group 1 races over the past five years, the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale was the place to be this week, and Blue Sky Bloodstock were fortunate to secure outright or in partnership, six quality two-year-olds.

Off the back of an impressive Melbourne Spring carnival, trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott teamed up with Blue Sky Bloodstock to purchase an exciting pair of colts, the first Lot 26 from the draft of Ohukia Lodge Ltd.

By Bachelor Duke, the bay colt is out of Cape Cross mare Ave Maree from the family of Group 1 winners Montmare and Journey.

The second secured in the partnership was a grey colt (Lot 199), by the multiple Group 1 winner Reliable Man from the draft of Phoenix Park. The third foal of the winning Pins mare La Grande Dame, the colt counts dual Group 1 winner Rangirangdoo as a close relation and was a must have.

Lot 92, a bay colt by exciting sire Tavistock was the first outright purchase by Blue Sky Bloodstock. From the draft of Kiltannon Stables (as agent), the colt is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Diva Down Under, a half-sister to the Group 3-winning, Group 1 placed Gobi Ranger, from the family of Group 1 winners Desert War, Laser Hawk and Romantic Touch.

Interestingly, this exact pedigree cross has had just the single runner, the dual stakes winner Avisto.

With the announcement during the week of the passing of Pentire, the progeny of the multiple Group 1-producing sire are now in limited supply so we were pleased to purchase Belmont Farm’s Lot 97.

The filly is out of the Catcher In The Rye half-sister to Group 3-winning, New Zealand Champion 2YO Thriller.

A few two-year-olds later and Lot 100 walked into the ring, the Nom de Jeu gelding from the draft of Mangatiti Bloodstock was one we were very keen on. He is the first foal out of the tough and consistent E Dubai mare Dubai Belle, a winner of nine races including the Group 3 Metric Mile.

The final purchase of the sale came on day two when we secured Lot 371 from the Anzac Lodge draft.

By Statue Of Liberty, probably best known as the sire of Hay List, the bay colt is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Spring Burst, a half-sister to Group 2 and Group 3 winner Spirits Dance, who is herself a five-time winner by Statue Of Liberty – so it shows that the cross will work.
