Backing Up For Day Three and Four On The Coast

With the quality of the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale catalogue simply superb, almost 20 yearlings have been purchased in the first two days, and with a further two days of Book One remaining, there is bound to be quite a few more added to the list!

Striking early on day three of the sale, another yearling from the draft of Newhaven Park Stud was secured, this time for a client of Blue Sky Bloodstock.

Catalogued as Lot 455 (pedigree), the Delago Deluxe colt (pictured) is the second foal out of the winning Reset mare Morning Swim, who received quite a significant pedigree update after the catalogue went to print.

Impressive New Zealand Group 1 One Thousand Guineas winner Risque is a half-sister to the dam of the colt!

The first yearling we’d manage to secure from the large draft of Coolmore Stud was a filly by their first crop sire Pierro. Lot 492 (pedigree) is the second foal of the dual Listed winner Paprika, who finished second to Phelan Ready in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic of her year.

One of everyone’s favourites – I Am Invincible was the sire of our next purchase, Lot 550 (pedigree) from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud, the very home of the sire.

Out Romany Flyer, a winning Catbird half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Viking Hero, this is the family of classy fillies Unearthly and Invest – both Group 1 winners.

With not a lot of time to draw breath, the next purchase came two lots later when Rheinwood Pastoral’s Lot 552 (pedigree) was secured (pictured).

By Snitzel, the bay filly is the fourth foal of the winning More Than Ready mare Rose Of Montana, a sister to the stakes placed Montana Sunset, and a half-sister to Group 2 winner Montana Flyer – who were both trained by Gai at some stage of their careers.

Widden Stud presented the classy Fastnet Rock x Satinka filly as Lot 576 (pedigree), and she was a must purchase filly!

Satinka, who is a half-sister to the dam of Group 1 winner Rangirangdoo, was a multiple Group 2-winning, Group 1 performer on the track and her first two foals to race are both winners.

Our fifth yearling by Snitzel was out next purchase, this time from the draft of Victoria’s Burnewang North Pastoral as Lot 582 (pedigree).

Out of the Strom Cat mare Seaside Home, the Snitzel colt comes from the family of multiple Group 1 winner Cat Thief.

Extremely hungry for more, we went back to back on the Snitzel front, securing Newgate Farm’s Lot 590 (pedigree), a colt out of the Fasliyev mare Serious Impact, herself a half-sister to Listed winner Balcanny, who is in turn the dam of stakes winners Blur and Shrewd Rhythm.

As the vendor of the top lot of the sale, we couldn’t leave the sale without taking home one from John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud.

Lot 632 (pedigree) was a bay Not A Single Doubt half-brother to Group 2 winner Danroad and Group 3 winner Strawberry Boy as well as the Listed winners Newtown Jet and Tippitaka.

With the sale near to completion for the day, we took the opportunity to snap up Goodwood Farm’s Al Maher colt out of Keltrice mare Street Princess who sold as Lot 634 (pedigree).

Having a great record with the progeny of Al Maher, training Group 1 winners Almalad, Fat Al and Diamond Drille, as well as Al Maher himself, this was one colt that Gai was really keen to secure.

The final lot purchased on day three of the sale was the penultimate yearling, Lot 647 (pedigree) from the draft of Yarraman park Stud.

Our second yearling purchase by I Am Invincible, the colt (pictured) is out of the Fasliyev mare Sunset Boulevard, making him a half-brother to Group 2 winner Meliora.

With day three over, it was all about the $10 million raceday across the road at the Gold Coast Turf Club, and after a great day’s racing we headed back to the sales complex for Saturday's night session.

A handful of lots into the sale and we purchased Lot 668 (pedigree), from the draft of Fred Pesiah’s Lomar Park Stud.

A chestnut filly by Sebring, the filly is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Tapanappa, herself a half-sister to stakes winners Naden and Catango and is bred on a very similar cross to Coolmore’s dual Group 1-winning stallion Verrazano (More Than Ready).

The final lot of the Book One secured was Lot 743 (pedigree), the Not A Single Doubt x Zimaretto filly (pictured) for a client of Blue Sky Bloodstock.

The mare has had three runners for three winners highlighted by the full-sister to our filly, the Listed-winning Cruden Bay.
