Havana Sheds Maiden Tag In Fine Style

Having his first run this time in off the back of a gelding operation, Starcraft gelding HAVANA jumped from the outside barrier in the 10 horse field before coming across to sit in the lead.

With jockey Nash Rawiller controlling the tempo upfront, Havana kicked clear as they rounded the home turn, sprinting with all the class you’d expect, eased down on the line for a four length victory.

You knew once race caller Mark Shean stated “Havana’s kicked into another gear”, that the race was all over.

Having had two trials leading into the race, jockey Nash Rawiller stated post-race that after he trialled him the first time that he “simply fell in love with him.”

So taken with the victory, Rawiller also stated, “He's a Group One horse down the track we just need to take him steadily towards that.”

Trainer Paul Messara was also suitably impressed with the victory.

"He's always been a class horse, gelding has made all the difference and he showed that," he said.

"He lengthened out very quickly and found the line.

"He's a relatively inexperienced horse and I think today he showed what he can do.
