Blue Sky Bloodstock Pty Ltd is a Sydney based thoroughbred consultant and Bloodstock Agency and a member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia. Since 2006 Julian Blaxland and his team have selected, advised and purchased high quality bloodstock on behalf of clients in Australasia, Europe and North America through private sale and at public auctions.
We specialise in purchasing yearlings with potential to make commercial stallions and the private and public auction acquisition of quality Breeding Stock for breeder clients, consistently achieving stakes level success on the race track and commercial returns in the sales ring for our clients. Julian has built strong relationships with a range of major trainers across Australasia.
Growing up with horses from a young age on New South Wales' Southern Tablelands, Julian Blaxland's passion for racing and breeding began when he first worked for champion trainer Gai Waterhouse as an 18 year old at Tulloch Lodge in Sydney. After university, Julian joined Magic Millions (where he still contract auctioneers) as a Bloodstock Consultant, learning his trade and gathering skills that would enhance his ability to select successful horses in the future. After a year in Ireland working with world renowned bloodstock agent Adrian Nicoll (of the BBA Ireland) attending sales in the UK, France and the US, Julian returned to Australia to form Blue Sky Thoroughbreds with partners in 2006.
Julian enjoyed early success with yearling purchases SHE'S MEANER (Stakes Winning 2yo), MASTER ARCHIE (Stakes winning 2yo) and BLACK AND BENT (Twice Australian Champion Hurdler), quickly earning a reputation with peers and clients as an astute judge of horseflesh.
Keen to build on Julian's strong early strike rate selecting stakes performing horses as yearlings, Blue Sky was first to market with its unique Stallion Fund, produced annually with Arrowfield Stud from 2008. This unique product enabled small to medium sized investors to purchase equity in quality sire prospects whilst spreading their risk across a portfolio of horses purchased each year. Six years on, these Stallion Partnerships have amassed an enviable performance record with no less than five stallions standing at stud from colts purchased as yearlings, with several more stakes level sire prospects in the pipeline for future stud duties.

TOM SEYMOUR joined Blue Sky Bloodstock in May of 2017, formerly of Godolphin Australia as Head of Marketing. Tom's role as Business Development and Sales Manager complements Julian's experience and he has been a welcome addition and a great asset to BSB and our clients. His experience managing and coordinating major thoroughbred events coupled with his brilliant client services skills ensures Blue Sky clients get the most from their experience racing and breeding horses with Blue Sky.
Whilst buying, selling and advising for individuals and clients, Blue Sky Bloodstock are the retained Bloodstock Agency for the famed Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing Stable, a major player in Australian racing for many years.

In addition to servicing racehorse owners, Blue Sky Bloodstock purchases quality breeding stock for a large number of breeders and stud farms in Australasia annually. Many of the country's biggest and most astute breeders such as Newhaven Park, Arrowfield Stud, Yarraman Park and Highgrove Stud use Blue Sky to source and acquire fillies and mares to complement their broodmare bands.
At the end of 2012 Julian acquired a majority stake in the company and moved the company's head office to Sydney as Blue Sky Bloodstock Pty Ltd. While the company is still young, its our objective to build on our success to date and to keep raising the bar annually servicing our client base to the best of our capabilities.
