Julian Blaxland Bloodstock Pty Ltd is an Australian based Bloodstock Agency and a member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia. Since 2006 Julian Blaxland and his team have selected, advised and purchased high quality bloodstock on behalf of clients in Australasia, Europe and North America through private sale and at public auction. 

Julian specialises in purchasing quality thoroughbreds, as weanlings, yearlings and off the track to provide our clients with high class racing and breeding prospects that perform at the highest level. Julian Blaxland Bloodstock is a major buyer at auction and through private sale in Australasia and overseas for racing and breeding clients, such as Anthony & Sam Freedman, Chris Munce and Kacy Fogden Racing, among others, consistently achieving stakes level success on the race track and commercial returns in the sales ring. Julian has built strong relationships with a range of major trainers and industry leaders across Australasia, Asia, Europe the US in his 17 years in the thoroughbred industry.

Our Story

Growing up with horses from a young age on New South Wales' Southern Tablelands, Julian Blaxland's passion for racing and breeding began when he first worked for champion trainer Gai Waterhouse as an 18 year old at Tulloch Lodge in Sydney. After university, Julian joined Magic Millions as a Bloodstock Consultant and auctioneer, learning his trade and gathering skills that would enhance his ability to select successful horses in the future. After a year in Ireland working with world renowned bloodstock agent Adrian Nicoll (of the BBA Ireland) attending sales in the UK, France and the US, Julian returned to Australia to form Blue Sky Thoroughbreds with partners in 2006, whilst remaining as a Premier Sale contract auctioneer with Magic Millions for a further 7 years.

Julian enjoyed early success with yearling purchases SHE'S MEANER (Stakes Winning 2yo and Magic Millions Classic runner up), MASTER ARCHIE (Stakes winning 2yo) and BLACK AND BENT (Twice Australian Champion Hurdler), quickly earning a reputation with peers and clients as an astute judge of horseflesh.

Keen to build on Julian's strong early strike rate selecting stakes performing horses as yearlings, Blue Sky was first to market with its unique Stallion Fund, produced annually with Arrowfield Stud from 2008. This unique product enabled small to medium sized investors to purchase equity in quality yearling stallion prospects whilst spreading their risk across a portfolio of horses purchased each year. Six years on, these Stallion Partnerships have amassed an enviable performance record with no less than five stallions standing at stud from colts purchased as yearlings, with several more stakes level sire prospects in the pipeline for future stud duties.

Whilst buying, selling and advising for individual clients, Julian Blaxland is the retained Bloodstock Agent for Anthony & Sam Freedman Racing in Victoria and Kacy Fogden & Chris Munce in Queensland. It’s an honour to work with such high class trainers and we work hard to find and select the best bloodstock we can source for these stables throughout the sales season and on private purchases.

Breeding Stock Sales

In addition to servicing racehorse owners, Blue Sky Bloodstock selects and purchases quality breeding stock for a large number of breeders and stud farms in Australasia annually. Many of the country's biggest and most astute breeders such as Newhaven Park, Arrowfield Stud, Yarraman Park , Newgate Farm, Gilgai Farm, Milburn Creek and Highgrove Stud use Blue Sky to source and acquire fillies and mares to complement their broodmare bands.
